The development of St. Louis School involved the careful introduction of new teaching accommodation alongside the existing historic school buildings. The project sought to provide a contemporary learning environment while respecting the established character, scale and material presence of the original campus. The new accommodation is expressed in a restrained architectural language, creating a clear distinction between old and new without competing with the historic stone architecture. Simple rendered elevations, regular window openings and a strong horizontal roofline give the extension a calm and ordered character, while its proportions respond to the scale of the adjoining buildings. Internally, the design provides bright, efficient and flexible teaching spaces, with natural light and clear circulation forming important parts of the overall arrangement. The relationship between the new building and the existing school was carefully considered to ensure that the extension feels integrated into the wider campus rather than as a standalone addition. Externally, the new building sits comfortably within the established landscape, allowing the historic school to remain an important visual presence. The completed project creates a balanced relationship between heritage and contemporary education, providing much-needed additional accommodation while respecting the architectural identity of St. Louis School.
