The new sports hall at St. John’s School, Dromore was designed to provide a dedicated facility for physical education, sport and wider school activities while integrating carefully with the existing campus. The building is organised around a generous main sports space, supported by changing, circulation and ancillary accommodation. The internal arrangement was developed to provide clear movement through the building and a flexible environment capable of supporting a range of sporting and school uses. Architecturally, the hall is expressed as a series of simple contemporary volumes, helping to reduce the apparent scale of the building and establish a strong relationship with the surrounding school grounds. A restrained palette of brick, render, metal cladding and glazing gives the building a robust character appropriate to its use while maintaining a clear architectural identity. Generous areas of glazing bring natural light into the building and create visual connections between internal activity spaces and the wider campus. The completed project provides St. John’s with a durable and adaptable sports facility, enhancing the school’s existing accommodation and creating a strong new addition to the campus.
