Virginia Library
The Ramor Theatre, a Protected Structure and former Church, together with the neighbouring derelict Parochial House, are reimagined and are linked with a new library and community building. They are connected by a dynamic glass and steel structure containing the main circulation routes. The Client’s original brief for a town library, has now become an integrated arts and cultural facility for Virginia. The scheme brings a prominent public building in the town centre back into public use. The library, theatre and civic building have a new public presence.
This project expands the brief to integrate several functions into a new cultural complex to enhance the sustainability and vitality of a small market town. It supports the community, fostering culture and creativity. It will further encourage regeneration fulfilling the aims of the “Town Centre First “policy. Cavan Co Council are to be commended for their commitment and support for this visionary project. Minister Humphreys at the official opening said, “the building will be a focal point for the community, a place to bring people together and a place to attract visitor It is a once in a generation development and place for everyone”.
