Necarne Nursery was designed as a welcoming and engaging early-years learning environment, with the architecture shaped around the needs of young children and the importance of a strong connection between internal and external play spaces. The building is organised in a simple, legible manner, creating bright and accessible teaching spaces with generous levels of natural light. Large areas of glazing open the nursery towards the surrounding landscape, allowing classrooms to maintain a close visual relationship with the gardens and outdoor learning areas throughout the day. A broad overhanging roof helps unify the building while providing sheltered external space around its perimeter. The restrained form is given warmth and identity through carefully selected materials and areas of colour, creating an environment that feels playful and approachable without becoming visually overcomplicated. The landscape is treated as an extension of the learning environment, with planting, paths and informal play areas forming an integral part of the overall design. The result is a calm, durable and child-focused building that supports learning, play and exploration while sitting comfortably within its wider setting.
