Lakeland Community Care was designed as a contemporary care facility that places wellbeing, accessibility and connection to landscape at the centre of the architectural approach. The building provides a calm and welcoming environment for users, staff and visitors, while responding carefully to its rural setting in Lisnaskea. The building is arranged to create clear and intuitive circulation, with generous levels of natural light brought into the principal spaces. Large areas of glazing establish strong visual connections with the surrounding landscape, helping to create an open and comfortable internal environment while reducing the institutional character often associated with healthcare buildings. Architecturally, the scheme uses a restrained palette of render, glazing, metalwork and natural stone. The long, low building form follows the landscape, while the stone retaining walls and planted terraces help anchor the development within the site and create a gradual transition between architecture and the surrounding grounds. External spaces form an important part of the overall design, with landscaped routes, planting and sheltered areas contributing to a more therapeutic and domestic atmosphere. The completed project provides a modern, accessible and dignified care environment, combining functional healthcare accommodation with a strong sense of place and connection to nature.
