The restoration, reorganisation and extension of St. Patrick’s Chapel, Aghyaran focused on renewing the existing church while preserving the character, craftsmanship and sense of permanence of the original building. The conservation works carefully addressed the historic fabric, with particular attention given to the stone tower, rendered elevations, window openings and decorative architectural detailing. Existing elements were repaired and restored wherever possible, allowing the chapel’s established identity to remain central to the project. Internally, the building was reorganised to improve circulation, accessibility and the overall experience of the congregation. New interventions were introduced sensitively, responding to contemporary liturgical and practical requirements while respecting the scale and character of the existing interior. The extension was designed as a restrained addition, complementing the original chapel rather than competing with it. Through a careful balance of restoration, adaptation and new intervention, the project has extended the life of the building while retaining its strong architectural and civic presence within the local community.
